I don’t normally speak in the first person, but sometimes this website can feel a little impersonal. So hello world! My name is Whitney, and I am the proud owner of Colorful Creations.

I got my degree in Interior Design at the NY School of Interior Design (class of 2004!) and over the course of my time there, realized what I really loved about design is how much my clients loved it. I still practice design now and again, but after moving back home to Fairfield in 2007 I started a side-business. (Freelancing can be a tricky thing.) I had already done some face painting over the summers in high school and college, so I figured I’d give it a try.

Well, right when the economy crashed, so did interior design. But, I’m happy to report, people kept throwing awesome birthday parties! I’m not sure if it’s because we were looking for things to celebrate or still want to show our children how much we love them, but my solo face painting venture blossomed.

So, 8 years later, Colorful Creations is now an awesome team of artists. We have face painters, balloon twisters and temporary tattoo artists (and I still sometimes go out to parties myself!) as well as coordinate entertainment with other top-notch companies. (We’ve thoroughly tested them so you know you’re always getting the best.) When you’re looking for birthday party entertainment ideas, we’re Southern CT’s go-to! Even if we don’t offer it, I know plenty of other amazing entertainers who we can make sure make your party perfect.

While I’m not busy working in our shabby-chic office, I love hosting dinner parties at my condo (still in Fairfield!), hiking with my two labs (did you know Fairfield County beaches are open to all animals during the winter?), and am currently learning to bake.

My goal is always to provide the best service ever. I know how busy working moms are and how important our children are to us. My promise is always to go above and beyond in how we help you with your party, as well as provide top-notch party entertainment talent ideas.

1. Our artists will arrive about 15 minutes early to set up. Say your party is 2-4pm and you’ve hired entertainment. Our face painters set up in less than 5 minutes, and our balloon twisters are even faster! We will start painting the minute your scheduled entertainment starts and not stop until the end. (So no, you’re not paying us for set-up time!) *Just note, that if your large-scale event has a set-up time for vendors or a bigger act like fire performers, a puppet show, or a magician we will always get there much earlier. Just tell us what your needs are!
   
2. We don’t need much. Our face painters and caricature artists just need part of a table (or even a small coffee table) to set up and two chairs. Our balloon twisters don’t need anything at all! Other entertainers may need a larger space, but we’ll always discuss that with you before you book.
3. Relax! Our artists are all professionals, so you don’t have to make sure you keep your daughter’s bangs out of her face or make sure your son knows all the best choices for balloon twisting. Our artists are great at handling kids!
4. We’ll be working the whole time. If we get through your little guests faster than expected, our artists can move on for a second round of face paint or balloon animals, or move on to adults! We will spend the whole time entertaining, guaranteed.
5. Need more time? Sometimes (although rarely) parties get way more kids than expected. A few kids and our artists can handle it, but an extra dozen and our artists may ask you to extend their performance. They’ll notify you of how much this would be, but it’s always your call! It’s your party and your rules.
6. Clean up is a breeze. Our artists will pack up their station only after their time is up (so, if your party is 2-4pm we’ll only begin packing up at 4:01pm). This is when you can pay your remaining balance.

It’s pretty simple! And just in case you were wondering, here are a few quick questions we get asked a lot:

• Who will my artist be? We can’t always be 100% sure, but we will try give you as advanced notice as we can since we know inviting a stranger into your house can sometimes be a trust exercise. To keep up with our high-demand of entertainment we sometimes have to switch schedules last-minute, but you can feel free to call a few days before and we’ll tell you all about your entertainer!
• Can we offer your artists food? Only if you want! Our face painters and balloon twisters always appreciate a snack, but they’re also professionals that will always make sure your guests’ entertainment is above anything else.
• Can we offer your artists a drink? Our artists will never smoke or drink on the job, although we know these offers are always made with great intentions. Thanks for asking, but they want to make sure they do the best work possible! Plus, they probably have to drive to another party right after yours.
• How can we pay the balance? Cash is easy, or you can write a check to “Kaleidoscope”. If you’d like to pay via credit or debit card, please call our office the day before your party to process the payment since our artists don’t all have the ability to take credit at your event. You can also pay your event in full before the party if it’s easiest for you–just call ahead and we’d love to accommodate!
• Do we tip artists? Our artists are amazing and gratuity is always appreciated, but we know some budgets don’t allow tipping and for commercial events we know this is impossible. If you can, they’ll appreciate it! If not, you can always call our office and tell us how much you enjoyed them.
• We loved our artist! Can we request her/him for another party? Of course! We are almost always able to honor these requests, and our artists would love to come back and be part of your special days.

Kids love animals. Kids always want to be painted as animals! So why would we use paints that have been tested on animals, or contain animal products? Our face paints are not tested on animals (poor bunnies!), and even our paint brushes contain no animal hair. They’re also made in the US and are sweat-shop free. We are super-duper proud of this!

The highest sanitation and safety

We’ll never get tired of saying it: all of our face paints are FDA- and EU-approved cosmetics. Our clients expect a lot from us, and we expect a lot of our cosmetics! You can read more about our high sanitation standards, professional artists, background checks, and more on our blog.

Single-sourced, biodegradable balloon twisting

All of our balloons come from latex trees in Barranquilla, Columbia, South America. The parent company that harvests the latex, Sempertex, falls into all European Union safety guidelines, which are higher and more-thoroughly checked than the FDA.

Our balloon animals can last for up to two weeks in your home, but won’t last forever in a landfill! Because they are made from 100% natural latex, they are biodegradable. Little research has been done on exactly how long a used balloon will last for, but our supplier and their competition have all said, depending on the conditions, the balloons will decompose in somewhere between a year to five years in a landfill or outdoors.  Read more about balloons & the environment here!

As a reminder, children with a latex allergy will be allergic to our balloons. We’ve never had an accidentally reaction while working because we take care in containing any balloon scraps or popped balloons, but we want to make sure everyone stays safe!

Fair labor practices mean amazing artists

All of our artists and office workers are paid living wages–always well above minimum wage, and usually one of the highest wages they’ve ever been paid! Our amazing artists are all moms, students, or juggling multiple jobs, and most have student loans. Paying fair wages not only is better for them, but for our clients! They’re also given incentivized raises and bonuses as they improve their work, so our team is constantly getting better.

They love their jobs and it shows in their work! You won’t find a team of artists more dedicated anywhere.

We employ a group of multi-talented artists. While many face painters are just “solo acts” (moms and grandmothers working part-time job) all of our artists are trained in multiple skill areas so we can meet all of your party needs. Why deal with four companies when you can deal with one?

Our artists are professionally trained. Not only do all of our artists have a minimum BFA in art (one actually has her MFA), but have to take a mandatory 20hrs training in childcare to make sure your experience is perfect every time. By the end of 2015, each will be CPR and First Aid certified, as well as have training to deal with the growing number of children across the autism spectrum.

Sanitation is our priority. Our artists ensure a clean, sanitary experience for every child. They do this by (1) using a makeup cleaner in a spray bottle to constantly sanitize their whole station, (2) thoroughly cleaning brushes in anti-microbial water between strokes, (3) using only one makeup sponge per child, (4) cleaning all sponges and brushes between parties in an on-site autoclave in our office, (5) keeping hand sanitizer in their makeup kits for themselves and guests, and (6) washing their hands before and after face painting. This comprehensive system keeps everyone clean, safe, and happy!

Safety is key. Beyond cleanliness, safety for all families and children is important! That’s why all of our artists have a background check done on them before being hired. We do not employ felons, anyone with child abuse charges, and no one with any criminal charges in their life. We know how important this is to our clients, and are shocked that very few other entertainment companies offer this guarantee.

Our expertise is at your disposal with concierge services. When you call us you’ll be working with one party agent the whole time. After they get you set up for your entertainment, you’ll be offered free party consulting or, if you’d like, our free concierge service. Let us order all of your decorations, advise you on catering, answer your questions about invitations, or even book your bounce houses. Anyway we can help, we will!

• Colorful Creations is an entertainment agency, but our party planning experts will help you with everything you need.
• We specialize in face painting, balloon twisting, and temporary tattoos (three of the most-requested entertainment types in the area)
• We can additionally find, screen, and hire the best entertainers in the state. We do all of the research, make sure they are insured, and hire them for your party.
• All of our “bonus” concierge services are included in your entertainment prices. You only deal with one agent here and aren’t billed hourly or with any other fees.
• Ask your CC agent any party questions, have them help you find perfect invitations, send out e-invites to your guest list, follow up with RSVPs, order decorations for you… all at your phone!
• Just call us as you think of things. Your agent will help you as quickly as they can and take care of anything on your to-do list.
• What time should my entertainment arrive? How long are most parties? What kind of food do five year olds like? Are there allergens in that cake? We will answer all of your questions, or find the answers for you!
